I started following and interacting on biblio-blogs, and then started blogging here in 2006. I found this hobby enjoyable and stimulating because it caused me to reflect more deeply about many issues including Christian spirituality, theology, the Bible, the mission of Christ’s Church, and other current issues of life.
I love the message of Christ, which brings faith, hope, joy and peace to all who receive it. Theologians most influential in my life have been the reformers Martin Luther and John Calvin. A few modern theologians who introduced me to fall in love with ministry are: Francis Schaeffer, Watchman Nee. I have definitely been enriched to have had experienced such a wide variety of spirituality, ranging from contemplative-liturgical, charismatic, evangelical, Lutheran, and Calvinist. To describe me is difficult so I’ll take a page out of Brian McLaren’s book, A Generous Orthodoxy:
I am a missional, evangelical, post/protestant, liberal/conservative, mystical/poetic, biblical, [pentecostal]-charismatic/contemplative, fundamentalist/calvinist, anabaptist/[lutheran], methodist, catholic, green, incarnational, depressed-yet-hopeful, emergent, unfinished Christian.
As a Christian, I no longer feel there is only one right or best way to be and do the Christian life and ministry. Christ and St. Paul the Apostle were all things to all people. They pushed the envelope and were seen as liberal rabble-rousers, but were also traditional-conservatives. So to define who I am is impossible so I’ll just say that I’m a follower of Christ.
I had always felt a desire to serve God and work toward a purpose greater than my own desires. I heard God’s call to serve Christ but felt gripped by fear and uncertainty, but it was the Holy Spirit who helped me “crucify the desires of the flesh” and to live in obedience to Christ. After leaving all behind me, I have never looked back in pursuit of God’s higher calling of ministry to be a part of God’s mission, through the Church, in the world. I am so glad God drew and led me in this direction within the kingdom of God as I labor to introduce others to the redemptive reign of God in Christ Jesus.
