Gary, thanks for your thoughts. There is also the idea where God alone makes us holy (cleansing us from sin) which can be monergistic, but we also need to cooperate in living out a holy life. I think we may be thinking of the same thing but just saying it in different ways. I’m not sure what are the different theological views on this issues though.

That’s a tough question, Kevin! I think justification is certainly monergistic, that we can do nothing without the awakening from the Holy Spirit. But when it comes to sanctification, it seems to me it’s more of a cooperative venture, and I think the Lord likes it that way. Once he has us (as if there was ever any doubt), I think he likes for us to be involved in our own sanctification, that our human will is working in agreement with the Holy Spirit to make us holy. Just a few thoughts anyway.

It must have been for those with little theology a confusing debate. For those with formal theological training, there were some surprises. Ehrman
appeared angry and defensive. Evans clearly won the debate based upon his style which was gracious, and his honest academic integrity.

That doesn’t sound good. I’m sure Dr. Evans holds to the primacy of scripture though. I wonder if he was misunderstood.

I just talked to a friend who went to the St Mary’s debate tonight – he said neither of them expressed a belief in the Scriptures. Not quite sure what the debate is like then.

hi – is it just me !! can any one explain why when i type in the firefox browser “newepistles.com” i get a different site yet whe i type it in google its ok? could this be a bug in my system or is any one else having same probs ?
